(Genesis 12:2) And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
Legacy:
· Where my life lives on after I’m gone.
· Giving to something that will outlive me.
· Living so my life outlasts me.
Big Idea: The goal of life isn’t to live on earth forever but to leave something that outlasts you.
2 Questions of Eternity
(Romans 14:10-12) You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “As surely as I live,” says the Lord, “every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
Question One: What did you do with Jesus?
(Revelation 20:11-12) Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.
Question Two: What did you do with what I gave you?
(2 Corinthians 5:10) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
(Matthew 16:27) For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
3 COMMITMENTS OF THE LEGACY LIFE
(Ecclesiastes 3:11) He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart…
1. I will intentionally give what I have.
(2 Corinthians 9:11) You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
2. I will intentionally serve others.
(Matthew 25:35-36, 40 ESV) “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and
you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”… And the King will answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
3. I will intentionally share Christ.
(2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT) So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us….
(Luke 14:23 LB) “Go out into the country…and urge anyone you find to come in, so that My house will be full.”
(Mark 16:15 NCV) Jesus said to His followers, “Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News to everyone.”
Why?
(1 Timothy 6:17-19) Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
BOTTOM LINE: There is more to this life than this life.
